Crew dons oxygen masks due to smoke on board Skywest Airlines flight

A Skywest Airlines Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of United, registration N947SW performing flight UA-4644 from Charleston,WV to Chicago O’Hare,IL (USA) with 52 people on board, was enroute at FL300 about 30nm north of Dayton,OH (USA) when the crew donned their oxygen masks and decided to divert to Dayton reporting smoke on board. Descending towards Dayton the crew advised ATC the crew was on oxygen, the passengers were not, the smoke in the back was dying down, hence it wasn’t a potential fire. The aircraft landed safely on Dayton’s runway 24R about 15 minutes later.

The airline reported a mechanical indication.
