A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKO performing flight LH-569 from Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) to Lagos (Nigeria), was on approach to Lagos when the crew donned their oxygen masks reporting smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Lagos’ runway 18R and taxied to the apron.
The aircraft remained on the ground in Lagos for about 18 hours, then performed the onward sector LH-569 to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), then remained on the ground in Frankfurt for another 63 hours (2 days 15 hours) before returning to service.
